In the Fall of 2010, AlliancExchange partnered with OneWorld Classrooms because of the work
they do in Ecuador and the Amazon Rain Forest Curriculum they develop.
Through OneWorld Classrooms' Amazon Rain Forest School Project, US K-6
schools 'travel' electronically to the Amazon Rain Forest and interact with partner classes there.
Participation options include art, music, video, email, and Skype exchanges. A team of nine OneWorld
Classrooms staff and volunteers visited schools in the Ecuadorian Amazon from March 12-27, 2011, to
facilitate the exchanges. The team visited at least five schools in the rainforest
including the following schools in Pastaza and Napo Provinces, Ecuador:
1. Escuela Pio Jamarillo Alvarado,
Fatima
2. Escuela Leonidas Proano, Los Angeles,
Puyo
3. Escuela Angel Manzano, Santa Fe (via
al Triunfo)
4. Escuela General Ruminahui,
Puyopungo
5. Escuela General Pintag, Campana Cocha, in Napo Region,
Ecuador
AlliancExchange contributed to OneWorld Classrooms purchase
of art materials which was donated to all schools. The students in Ecuador used the materials to
create artwork for their US partner classes. The schools kept the art materials used for the
activity and were given additional art materials as well. Remaining funds were used to purchase
paint for an Environment-themed mural OneWorld Classrooms Volunteers will create with students at the
school in Campana Cocha.
