Our project in Tacna, Peru -
Give Back, Buy a Backpack, was started in 2010 with the aim of
funding school supplies for 10 students. The schools in this neighborhood do not have the resources to provide
these to the children. A backpack containing basic stationery, recreation and hygiene supplies for an entire
year goes a long way towards keeping these children in school. Our annual fundraiser held at the popular
Peruvian restaurant, Machu Picchu in
Somerville, MA benefits this program.
A chance encounter with a young entrepreneur in 2012 marked a turning point in
the course of our program and the beginning of a wonderful relationship. The Nazca Line Apparel
team, headed by founder Dan Barrenchea offered an ample donation
which enabled us to support 60 children for the 2013 school year -double the number we had hoped to achieve. In
addition, they pledged to donate 5% of all sales towards AlliancExchange.
On September 18th 2013 at our fundraiser
for the children of Peru, we witnessed a renewal of their commitment towards the cause; a generous donation and
wonderful stories to share about their visit to Peru, where they had taken the time to meet and get to know the
children we support.
If you would like to help a child from
Peru, go to our Donate page for information on sending a check or online payment. Each
backpack for the year costs $50, but donations in any amount for this program are welcome.
